* Warning to all Frost Prevention Heat Trace Tape users *

Frozen pipes are a problem no matter what. Liqui-Fire (without the letter “d”) makes it a problem that is much easier to deal with at little expense and time.

Whether you call it thaw, thawing, unthaw, unthawing, unfreeze, unfreezing, melt, or melting, fixing, or DIY or D.Y.I., it’s still a problem. Most often the pipe is frozen outside in the ground or underground, or under a mobile home, or in a wall. Most pipes freeze where most homeowners would never install heat trace tape. Save your money and save you time.

That’s why people that have used Liqui-Fire says, “It works, so you don’t have to”.

Please be certain to read “Global Warming & Frost Prevention Heat Trace Tapes and Cables”.

A1 - Frozen Pipes - To all consumers... please be aware that EVERY STORE or BUSINESS in Canada & the United States can order  Liqui-Fire without having an account.  "LIQUI-FIRE" can be securely ordered online using most major credit cards plus they get a discount when they prepay.  Liqui-Fire was in many national warehouses but Woodsmans International discontinued that process for two reasons.  It was much slower than orders that were shipped on the day product was ordered reflecting a substantial loss of sales and that process also eliminated our knowledge of what stores were our customers as we offer FREE retailer support.

National Warehouse Orders versus Supplier Direct Shipping

To Retail Store Owners... In Canada when "LIQUI-FIRE" was in most of the various national warehouses our sales dropped.  We ship the day the order is received.  In many cases a Pick List order may take a week or two before leaving the warehouses to your store.  When an order is received in the national warehouses it is put on your pick list.  Your pick list order may leave its warehouse this week or in many cases next week or later.  Hands down we get your order to you in the shortest time possible as we ship direct every single day.  This means it gets into stores when pipes are frozen everywhere and your customers are wanting to buy it.  That's a week or two more sales.  The store then has "LIQUI-FIRE" sooner and that is better for everyone.  Plus; stores that take advantage of ordering online benefit by an additional $12.00 discount  off every case for prepaying.

Further more Woodsmans International pays ALL Expedited Ground Shipping everywhere in Canada and the United States.  Servicing your order as our customer is our policy and priority.

One younger customer in British Columbia had a frozen water line or poly-pipe.  He and his wife had bucketed water for over 6 weeks from a mountain creek on their property.  He ordered 6 bottle of "LIQUI-FIRE".  He poured 3 in and then flushed the pipe with water to try to push "LIQUI-FIRE" through faster.  That didn't work and so he called us.  He poured in the other 3 bottles and was told not to back flush.  The next day he called and was as happy as can be when he told me, "If you were here right now, my wife would kiss you!"  Now that's a happy customer.    See us on Facebook

About 10 years ago.  Another customer in the Lake of the Woods region of Canada and United States hired a plumbing contractor to steam his intake water pipe or water line as it was frozen when he and his wife arrived home the previous day.  The plumbing contractor charged him $59.00 per hour and worked steaming the 300 foot long 1 1/4 intake water line.  At the end of the day, the contractor left telling the husband that he'd managed to get about 110-120 feet of the pipe thawed and explained that he could come back again the next day to try to get more thawed but that it was taking longer to thaw the ice inside the pipe with each foot.  The steam was becoming colder the plumber explained.  He left the customer $500.00 poorer and told the customer that he probably would have to wait until spring before the 300 foot long pipe thawed.

Back to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to Questions

The customer's wife returned home shortly after with a couple of bottles of "LIQUI-FIRE".  Her husband told her that it was a waste of more money as the plumber had just told him they would have to wait until spring.  She insisted her husband put it in even though he wanted her to return it to the store for the $40.00.

Happy customers blog about LIQUI-FIRE here

Sometime during the night, the couples young daughter loudly yelled from the bathroom, they had water.

So there you have it.  "LIQUI-FIRE" thawed a frozen 300 foot waterline or water pipe.  $500.00 plus for a plumber that couldn't get it thawed or $40.00 for a couple bottles.       And this is a happy customer.

"LIQUI-FIRE" greatly increases the speed of water service restoration when it is used as soon as a pipe is frozen.

If you want to remove most water from your waterline or water pipe, some customers suggest that you simply tape the end of a hose and insert it into the waterline or water pipe.  This displaces most of the water.

bullet Q5 - Frozen drain pipes frozen sewer pipes frozen septic pipes frozen septic tanks frozen septic systems - Will "LIQUI-FIRE" thaw my frozen sewer line if it's full of ice and waste solids?

A5 - LIQUI-FIRE is able to thaw any frozen sewer pipe or drain pipe.  The waste solids are frozen in liquid and "LIQUI-FIRE" will thaw the liquid portion of the waste in the pipe.  Once that happens, then the solids can slide down the sloped length of the pipe as they do the rest of the year.  Sit back and enjoy your day knowing that "LIQUI-FIRE" is working even though you don't have to.

One customer in Manitoba had a frozen sewer for over 3 weeks.  He put 2 bottles of "LIQUI-FIRE" into the toilet floor flange sewer pipe.  Three hours later, he called to complain that it hadn't worked.  Two hours after that, he called again in utter amazement as his line was thawed.

bullet Q6 - How long will it take for "LIQUI-FIRE" to thaw unthaw restore my frozen water pipes frozen drains frozen drain pipes frozen sewer pipes or frozen septic pipes?

A6 - The time required for "LIQUI-FIRE" to thaw your frozen lines will vary.  Some users notice a freeze up immediately plus they know about Liqui-Fire and it is also available at a store near them or they have a couple of spare bottles on hand.  These users find that Liqui-Fire thaws their pipes in a short period of time often in a few hours after inducing Liqui-Fire into the frozen pipe.

Other users may have frozen water lines for days, weeks or even months. The internal freeze length within the frozen pipe is a factor that determines the required time for Liqui-Fire to thaw their pipe(s).  For these users the time it takes to thaw their pipes is possibly days and sometimes even weeks depending on the length, the diameter, and the lay of the pipe that is frozen.

The latter group may have issues with the lay of the pipe.  A pipe that was installed relatively true or level during the warmer months may have one or several areas of the length of pipe that are higher or lower than other areas of the pipe.  Water runs through these areas fine when it is not frozen.  Once the pipe freezes it is these valleys that create issues for some users.  The valleys act as traps beneath a sink, thus trapping Liqui-Fire from going beyond that point.  The only way to assure Liqui-Fire gets beyond that point or valley is to pour in more Liqui-Fire.  Liqui-Fire is heavier than water and will find its way to the lowest point.  Pouring more Liqui-Fire in will cause it to pass beyond those valleys.

Those who notice a freeze up within 24 hours of its occurring, Liqui-Fire normally thaws your lines within 4 hours to overnight under normal conditions.

To better understand what it is that Liqui-Fire must do here are a couple of examples to help users understand.

Back to Questions Back to Questions Back to Questions Back to Questions

Example #1: Lets say you have a boat and motor and have to cross a big lake.  The result you want is to complete this task.  To take on this task you buy a couple of gallons of gasoline.  You pour them into your boat gas tank.  You set out on your task to cross the lake but the motor stops running.  The gas you bought was not enough to complete your task.  That does not mean that the gas didn't work.

* The gas manufacture will not give you a refund on the gas you bought.

* The gas company is not responsible for the time it took you to row the remainder of the way to complete your task.

Common sense tells us to ALWAYS keep extra gas on hand.

Example #2:  Lets say you are taking a trip to the beaches of Southern California.

Just because you put SOME gas in your vehicle:

it does not mean you are there yet, nor

that it will be enough gas to get there, nor

does putting in SOME gas shorten the time it will take to get there.

It will take however long it takes and there is no way of knowing what traffic jams, accidents, vehicle break downs, washroom breaks, meal breaks, nights of sleep, etc etc etc may be lengthening the time it takes.

Example #3: Understanding what it takes to thaw 40 feet of frozen pipe.  40 feet of frozen pipe is equivalent to a 4 storey tall building.  Lets assume the temperature is well below freezing and you were trying to warm you hands.  You are trying to warm you hands with a hair dryer.  Your hair dryer is 40 feet above your hands.  You are blowing the heat into a 40 foot long piece of pipe that is the diameter of your own frozen pipe.

BUT...

The pipe is still continuing to be frozen from the outside along the entire length of the pipe.

PLUS...

The pipe is full of SOLID ice.

Before your hands ever feel any heat whatsoever; the hair dryer must warm the most extreme furthest end of the pipe nearest your hands to the freezing point.  Once the far end of the pipe has been warmed to the freezing point instantly you will have your water running or your drains and sewers empty.

Again however long it takes is simply how long it is going to take.  Every pipe and environment is different.

That is why we ask all consumers to print a copy of the link posted here.  SEE: Q-8

We hope the above explanations help some consumers to better understand the nature of thawing frozen pipes.

bullet Q7 - How much "LIQUI-FIRE" should I use to thaw unthaw restore my frozen water pipes frozen drain pipes frozen sewer pipes or frozen sewer pipes?

A7 - Thawing a frozen pipe is much like taking a trip across the country.  Just because you put "some" gas in the tank does not mean you will get there on that gas alone.  We all understand that it takes as much gas as it takes.  The smaller the vehicle and the shorter the distance the less gas it will take.  The bigger the vehicle and the greater the distance the more gas it will take.

Keep those relative thoughts in mind when using using Liqui-Fire.  Stores will let you buy more and are willing to return any Liqui-Fire that you did not use provided you keep your receipt and the bottles are clean.

Ask yourself, "is my pipe short or long?"  "Is my pipe small or large in diameter?"  "How much water is in the pipe that will dilute Liqui-Fire before it gets to the ice blockage?"

To have your water restored faster, use as much as possible, however two or three bottles is plenty for many users to thaw frozen water, drain, septic or sewer pipes.

Being without water causes tremendous stresses on relationships, and ends many good times.  Most people want their water restored immediately.  Maximum concentration of "LIQUI-FIRE" will shorten your wait. If frozen waterlines have been a problem in your area from time to time, keep a bottle of "LIQUI-FIRE" on hand in case of possible freeze ups and use as soon as possible when a freeze up is first detected. Consumers who have done so state that water was restored in substantially less time.

Q8A - Why is Liqui-Fire available at only some Canadian Tire Stores?

Last modified: Jul-24-2014

Water is the #1 essential in life.  Without water, food and shelter do not matter.

Every store in any country is owned by someone and it is the free chose of these store owners to fill their stores with what consumers ask for and what they themselves decide upon.

It is up to you as a consumer to speak directly to the store owner so that the store owner knows what customers need and want.  Store clerks or store cashiers are not the ones that can help.

Take a printed copy of either page below to your favorite store and they will order Liqui-Fire.

Q9 - Will drain cleaner or drain opener thaw frozen drain pipes frozen drains frozen sewer pipes frozen septic pipes frozen septic tanks frozen waste pipes like "LIQUI-FIRE"?

A9 - The only thing that works like "LIQUI-FIRE" is a spring thaw.

Online: Several "One Percent" companies state drain cleaners or drain openers thaw frozen pipes.   They write numerous articles, blogs, etcetera to increase sales.  Here is the truth.  If your pipe wasn't clogged or plugged with grease or dirt before freezing temperatures occurred in your area then it isn't clogged or plugged.  It is simply frozen with ice and perhaps some suspended solids are frozen in that ice.  You only need to thaw your frozen drain or sewer pipe because your pipes are as clean as they were before freezing.  Plus there is only so much drinkable water on earth.  Your choice will save billions of gallons of water from being contaminated.

The damage drain cleaners or drain openers do to your pipes is clearly visible on the consumer alert page.  This includes your plastic ABS pipe and cement tile pipe.  Those test were conducted by a completely independent forensic laboratory.  Those companies just want your money.

Other products such as Liquid Fire Drain Opener - or Drain Cleaner, Liquid Pipe Thaw, and Liquid Lightning etc ALL have the letter "D" in the name.  A few of the main hazardous concerns are disfiguring burns, dangerous fumes that can cause irreversible lung damage, blindness and even death.  Many other complaints we hear is that these products cause hundreds and thousands of dollars in damages per home.  Discoloured or stained stainless steel sinks are one of the most common.

To all Frost Prevention Heat Tape Users

Your outside water pipes + sewer pipes + septic pipes will freeze when the surrounding soil temperature dips below the freezing point.

Here is why.

People install Frost Prevention Heat Trace Tapes above ground inside a house or crawl space where pipes are easily accessible.

They wrap the easiest part.  Right?

It is like having an electric blanket on in your house but you are sleeping outside.

You would freeze solid and your pipes will freeze solid as well !

Keep a couple of bottles of Liqui-Fire on hand for when your pipes freeze.

You could use Frost Prevention Heat Trace Tapes and/or electrical devices as see in the facts below.

1st - you could spend upwards of a couple hundred dollars to buy the heat tape,

2nd - you may have to pay a plumber $400.00 - $500.00 to install it; or waste your own time tearing apart your plumbing,

3rd - you will have to pay possibly $20.00 a month increase on your electric bill every month for ever and ever!

4th - things inserted inside a drain, sewer or septic pipe are known to snag waste and cause clogs or blockages.

You could read about it at:  www.frozenlinesolutions.com or at: www.heatline.com but why waste your time and money?

To me; the needles expense is like keeping your attic lights on  JUST IN CASE you go up there one day.

Dec/30/11 - Another home owner spent over $400.00 on heat tape.  Their water pipe froze underground.  They are now a die hard Liqui-Fire customers.

FYI - Liqui-Fire is environment friendly.

Heat Trace Tape and Frost Prevention Tape are NOT environment friendly and greatly contribute to Global Warming.
