Every day of winter, hundreds of people say something like:

"My water pipes are frozen underground, now what?"  or...   Read this

"What can I do if my drain pipes are frozen underground?   or...   Read this

"What is the best method or way to fix or thaw frozen drains sewers pipes or intake lines underground?"    or...   Read this

"My pipes or septic system are frozen underground, what can I do to fix them?   or...   Read this

"My septic tank froze underground, what can I do to fix it?   or...  Read this

"I think my pipes are frozen underground, how can I fix them?   or...   Read this

"How do I know if my pipes are frozen?"   or...   Read this

"What do plumbers use to thaw frozen water drain sewage or sewer pipes and lines?"   or...   Read this

"How do plumbers thaw frozen water drain sewage or sewer pipes and lines?"   or...   Read This

"My plumbing is frozen somewhere, how do I find where my pipe is frozen?"   or...   Read this

"What is my opinion on electrical devices and heat tapes to prevent pipes from freezing?"   or...     Read this

"Is there any guaranteed method or way of preventing frozen water drain sewage or sewer pipes and lines from freezing?"   etc...

So you have frozen water pipes or drain pipes or sewer pipes and are wondering what can you do.    frozen water pipes or drain pipes or sewer pipes and are wondering what can you do

And now you want to know what you can do when your pipes freeze.

What can I do if my pipes freeze

Well you are not alone.

Thankfully there is "LIQUI-FIRE".  *without the letter "d"  Pour Liqui-Fire into a pipe it will find its way to the ice plug.  Liqui-Fire works so you don't have to.  Plumbers use Liqui-Fire to thaw frozen pipes and especially those hard to reach places in walls or underground.

To simplify things understand that there are basically only 2 types of plumbing pipes that most of us deal with in a home or dwelling.  The pipe bringing water in is called a feed or supply or intake line.  The pipe that takes it all out is called a drain, a sewer, a waste or sewage line.  Pipes are also often referred to as lines or runs.

The first thing to do is to determine which pipe is frozen.  Some of you may already know.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was asked to compare LIQUI-FIRE versus Heat Tape and/or Electrical Devices so here are the facts...
Remembering that pipes seldom freeze, so JUST  IN  CASE  you ever have a frozen pipe you could;
Spend $24.99 and keep a bottle of Liqui-Fire on hand and relax and enjoy the money you saved,
OR...
1st - you could spend upwards of a couple hundred dollars to buy the heat tape,
2nd - you may have to pay a plumber $400.00 - $500.00 to install it; or waste your own time tearing apart your plumbing,
3rd - you will have to pay possibly $20.00 a month increase on your electric bill every month for ever and ever!
4th - things inserted inside a drain, sewer or septic pipe are known to snag waste and cause clogs or blockages.
Replace every 5 years as per warranty.  Remember to turn it off and on every year.
Now  DOUBLE  YOUR  EXPENSE  because you need it on your water supply plus another on your drains!  Yikes!!
It is your money and it is a JUST  IN  CASE  SITUATION.
You could read about it at:  www.frozenlinesolutions.com or at: www.heatline.com but why waste your time and money?
To me; it is like buying a gas station and keeping your car engine running JUST IN CASE you drive one day.
Dec/30/11 - Another home owner spent over $400.00 on heat tape.  Their water pipe froze.  They are now a die hard Liqui-Fire customers.
FYI - Liqui-Fire thaws more frozen heat tape systems then heat tape manufactures do.
Can Liquid Fire Drain Opener or any drain cleaner Safely thaw a frozen pipe?        NO, that's marketing B.S.
Just a note on that... One drain cleaner { Liquid  Fire Drain Cleaner ( with a "D" ) } states 4 ounces works.  If that were true then the company would sell it in a 4 ounce bottle.  It's like needing new tires on your vehicle.  You only need 4 tires so why are the selling you more?  Yup, that's marketing B.S. to me not to mention the permanent damage drain cleaners do to our water supply on earth.  *reference of ounces in a gallon  Check out dangerous drain damage before you buy Liquid  Fire Drain Cleaner with a "D" in the name.
Be aware that "Liqui-Fire" and "Liquid Fire Drain Cleaner" or Opener are not comparable products.
They are products from 2 very different companies.
Liqui-Fire safely thaws frozen water pipes, pumps lines, well lines and all drain, septic, sewage and sewer pipes and lines.
Liquid Fire Drain Cleaner or Opener is for clogged drains only and aggressively destroys everything including your drain traps, drain pipes, any rubber components, and even the adhesives that hold the pipes together.
A Frozen Water Feed Supply or Intake Pipe or Line
Frozen pipes can be inside, outside, underground, in a wall, etc.  They often freeze outside of a dwelling but can be inaccessible and might be in a wall, ceiling, or floor.
For a water supply that is frozen in the wall.
The first thing is to always shut off your water supply.
Second: Open the highest and lowest cold water valves ( or taps ) and let any remaining water drain.  Give it a few minutes.
Back to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to Questions
Third: Once the water has drained you can now close the lowest valve.
Back to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to QuestionsBack to Questions
Forth: The highest valve is either your kitchen faucet or your shower spout.  Either works.
Fifth: Remove the spout or shower spout and pour in "LIQUI-FIRE".  If you are pouring it into the shower spout then rotate the neck so that you can pour it in.  Be certain the cold water valve is open for either the sink or the shower.  When using the be certain the diverter valve is pulled up so that Liqui-Fire goes into the spout.
If you pump your water from a well, a water cistern, or a water reservoir then using Liqui-Fire is really easy.  Simply disconnect the water supply line at the pump.  Remove any water in the pipe and pour in Liqui-Fire.  Hook up you pump line and you are done.    Now relax and do something you enjoy.  "LIQUI-FIRE"  is working so you don't have to.
A Frozen Drain Sewer Septic Waste or Sewage Pipe Line Tank or Bed System
If your drainage pipes are frozen then it means your sewage or waste water is not draining.  Signs of this may be water backed up in sinks, or showers and baths, or the dreaded toilet.
Treat your septic with the world's best and worry free septic treatment and cleaner available; "EverGreen Septi-Clean™"
Treat your septic with the worlds best and worry free septic treatment and cleaner available. Use Evergreen Septi-Clean™"
Ask your favorite retailer for "EverGreen Septi-Clean" by name.
Ask your favorite retailer for the worlds best and worry free septic treatment and cleaner available. Use Evergreen Septi-Clean™ by name.
Some dwellings have a "Cheater Vent" beneath the sink You can remove the cheater vent and pour Liqui-Fire into the open end of the pipe.  If not, then simply disconnect any trap and pour it straight into the pipe.  Put the trap back on.  Now relax and do something you enjoy.  "LIQUI-FIRE"  is working so you don't have to.
For those who would rather just put a ladder up to the stink pipe vent ( usually on the roof ), then all you do is pour it in and you are done.
If you have already tried using a drain cleaner or a drain opener then they will cause permanent damage and discoloration to your sink should they be back up.  Drain away any drain cleaner A.S.A.P. to prevent further damage.
Liqui-Fire will thaw frozen septic feed pipes that connect the house to the septic where often an outside cleanout has been installed.
Liqui-Fire DOES  NOT work for septic fields, septic tiles, or septic beds.  This is because of the weep holes.  When the first weep hole or slit opening thaw and sewage water can weep to the outside of the pipe, so would Liqui-Fire.
The Does and Don'ts of Thawing Frozen Pipes or Lines
We care about your safety and that is why we wrote this section.
Regardless of what "One Percent" marketers tell you, DO  NOT use a drain cleaner or drain opener to thaw a frozen intake or sewage pipe.  If your pipe wasn't clogged or blocked before it froze then you don't need drain cleaner.  Drain cleaner instructions say to measure 4 ounces and then wait 4 hours and that brings up 2 points.  If 4 ounces thaws a frozen pipe then why is it sold by the gallon?  Also; I've lived in the high north and bitter cold and I can't see myself shaking with cold and trying to measure and pour drain cleaner.  My life and health are worth far more than that stupid bit of advice.  You can see the problems people had who tried it.  For your safety we wrote a webpage link called, "Consumer Alert".  It's at the bottom of this page also.
Use Safety Practices
Always ask your retail experts on how to use any product safely.  We recommend safety goggles or safety glasses and rubber gloves.  The glasses are just prevents anything from accidentally getting into your eye.  The rubber gloves are just to keep your hands clean.  Should Liqui-Fire get on your skin, the food grade dye will leave your hands slightly lighter than the colour of the product for a few washings.  It will not burn you at all.  There is No "D" in "LIQUI-FIRE".  Should you splash some Liqui-Fire in your eye it will itch but will not burn your eye.  We recommend you flush with water but this is hard to do with a frozen water supply line.  Perhaps you might want to purchase an eye flushing kit to keep in your home for your own safety.
Now that the few steps for your frozen pipe or line are completed, you can relax knowing that Liqui-Fire is working so you don't have to.  Be certain to open or turn on your water supply after you have completed the steps above.  Leave a faucet open so that once it melts the ice in your pipe the water can flow and bring some warmer water back into your line.  Let it run a few minutes.
Now you know why our advertisements on radio, and our video on YouTube and the Liqui-Fire labels all begin with, "Get Lucky with "LIQUI-FIRE".  Others got lucky and soon you will too.
Enjoy.
