My Recommendations

When the shingles on your property have to be replaced, here are some tips to remember.

Shingle Warranty

The warranty is on the life of the shingles and goes with the shingles installed on your property.  It's an asset to your property should you sell your home.  I mean it's worth money to you.  Lots of money.

Buy your own shingles

Whether you are going to install your own new shingles or hire a professional, this is a must when you buy shingles.  Be certain that you buy the shingles yourself regardless of who is going to install them.  This is a must whether you are having your new shingles delivered or picking them up yourself.

Do Not Give Your Name

When you order them from your friendly Home Hardware Building Centre, do not give them your name.  Instead give them only the address of your property on which the shingles will be installed.  Home Hardware DOES NOT need your name, just your money.  This way the shingle warranty will stay with the home owner of that address.  Once you have the receipt, place it in an envelope marked, "House Warranties".  Keep all your homes warranties and guarantees together.  I'd suggest you keep these secure near your electrical panel.  This way, your shingle warranty covers you or the next home owner.

Remember; Your name is NOT required to buy shingles, just your address.  If Home Hardware tells you it's needed then buy your shingles elsewhere.  I'd buy shingles elsewhere as I don't like being taken.  Here is Home Hardware taking your money  -  How to install new roofing shingles

Home Hardware DOES NOT want you to save your money, they want more of it.  So be sure to tell others about this website and email this link to everyone you email.  You could save someone money right now.  Plus you'd be helping to save Canadian jobs!

Home Owners helping Homeowners

Most boastful and proud Home Hardware owners gladly tell you there isn't much mark up on shingles.  Some like Harry Geerlinks and Frank Geerlinks will even show you a flip screen to show you their cost.  What they show you is only what Home Hardware Stores head office wants you to see.

The fact is Home Hardware Stores Ltd. which is proudly owned by all Home Hardware Store owners is part of the CCSPA.  Between these members there are many "under the table" side deals made.  Some might be good for consumers but most take more of your money.  I believe Home Hardware Stores Limited has a deal on shingle sales and warranty replacement shingles.  Here is how I believe it works on shingle sales.  A Home Hardware owner's sale of shingles is reduced should a warranty be given.  This would mean you paid less for your shingles because of the shingle warranty.  The store owner would receive a smaller shingle profit cheque at the end of the year.  The more shingles your local Home Hardware sells to you at full price, the bigger his shingle profit cheque will be at the end of the year.

Take another look at the mathematical models and see how much of your money you'd keep.  Heck; you sure would enjoy life more with that money of yours or you could sponsor your own hockey team or Nascar instead of Home Hardware proudly marketing its sponsorship of hockey and Nascar.

My Recommendations

We all dislike pushers and I recommend buying your materials from businesses I've found to be trustworthy.  Rona, Timbr Mart, Tru-Value and other stores are where I shop.  I avoid businesses with thousands of television ads every day as it's your money and mine that paid for them.
